Harrison Design architects retained only the outer and a few interior walls of a single-story ranch house in this mid-century renovation. The new horizontal design is weighty yet capacious and modern, with double-height rooms, clerestory windows and an indoor-outdoor living concept. Impressive, 24-inch-thick travertine walls move from inside out. Along with travertine, the minimalist material palette includes stucco walls, limestone floors and bronze-framed glass windows and doors. Throughout the interior, Mondrian-like grids, achieved by windows and decorative interior walls, unify the home. The living room opens to a covered terrace for outdoor relaxation and entertaining.
