2019 AH&L HOLIDAY SHOWHOUSE BY HARRISON DESIGN OPENS IN ATLANTA

Now a highly anticipated holiday tradition, Harrison Design partnered with Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles to present the 2019 Home for the Holidays designer showhouse and marketplace. Constructed in Atlanta’s Sandy Springs neighborhood by White Oak Fine Homes, with interior selections by The O’Donnell Group and showcasing nearly 20 interior designers, the showhouse will be open Nov. 14 – Dec. 8. Ticket sales benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

This year’s home shows how a major renovation can transform a dated but well-built existing structure. While the core of the original 1950s colonial saltbox was retained, a new U-shaped addition incorporates features that suit a more contemporary lifestyle, including master suite and home office tower. Classical Arts & Crafts style details, such as an expansive, timber, front porch, blend with modern architectural elements. On the rear, the master bath appears like a floating glass box, as it cantilevers from the second floor. Throughout the home, abundant glass connects spaces with nature.

Frank Heery, who has been with the architecture firm since 2008, was project manager and designer. A true showhouse veteran, he was excited to tackle an extensive renovation. “This residence is substantially different from my other AH&L showhouses. Working with an existing structure really changes the dynamics,” he explained. The design and construction method was inspired by “Folly Farm,” an English country house renovation by Sir Edwin Luytens.
