INTRODUCING TRANSCENDING TRADITION: HOMES FOR MODERN LIVING BY HARRISON DESIGN
Today, we celebrate the release of Transcending Tradition: Homes for Modern Living, a book that has been years in the making and decades in the story.

Ten years ago, Harrison Design marked its 25th anniversary with the publication of our last book, a reflection on the work, people, and ideas that had shaped our practice through its first quarter century. Today, as we celebrate 35 years, Transcending Tradition offers a new perspective on that story and the ways our practice has continued to evolve.
Founded in 1991, Harrison Design has grown from a single studio into a multidisciplinary practice spanning architecture, interiors, and landscape design. Through that growth, our commitment has remained rooted in the belief that exceptional design begins with a thoughtful understanding of place, history, materials, and the people who inhabit each home.
Over the past decade, we have continued to refine that approach. Our work has evolved, our perspective has expanded, and our studios have grown, but the principles at the heart of the practice remain. Transcending Tradition captures that balance: a respect for the foundations of design alongside a willingness to reinterpret them for the way we live today.
The book brings together ten distinctive residences, each offering a different expression of our approach to modern living. Alongside these homes are seven essays exploring the ideas and values that inform our work, from classical foundations and materiality to site and planning, collaboration, interiors, and context.
Together, the projects and essays offer a look beyond the finished spaces. They reveal the thinking, collaboration, and attention to detail that shape a home from its earliest ideas through completion.
We are proud to share Transcending Tradition: Homes for Modern Living and to invite you inside the work that continues to define Harrison Design.
