Located in the mountains outside Beijing, this popular tourist attraction mimics one of southern China’s historic canal towns. With the Simatai section of the Great Wall as backdrop, the picturesque village offers stunning settings and vistas. This project encompassed master planning, schematic design and architecture to create a scenic whole. The small, Mission church with early Christian motifs was renovated for classical balance; traditional Romanesque frescoes and panels were hand-drawn for artisans to fabricate. Many elements, including the altar and statues, were sourced from the United States. Alongside the chapel, the village includes a reception venue with an outdoor terrace, a gift shop, and private apartments for wedding parties.
