The design of the Hazy Mountain Vineyards and Brewery outside Charlottesville, Va., was inspired by Tuscan farmhouses and Romanesque country churches. Constructed in durable masonry and clad in stucco, the buildings feature heavy timber trusses, 24-inch-thick walls, and rustic stone and ironwork detailing. From the tasting room’s four glassed-in porches and landscaped stone terrace, guests look out on the expansive vineyard and the scenic Shenandoah Valley’s foothills and Blue Ridge Mountains. A separate building, also oriented toward stunning views, accommodates weddings and private events with a large, stone-and-timber reception hall, banquet facilities, and large hardscaped terrace. The 86-acre campus, a popular weekend retreat destination, operates several vineyards and its own production facilities.
