Part of El Presidio de Santa Bárbara State Historic Park in the city’s downtown, this c. 1925 historic theatre was marred by a several awkward renovations and continual use. It also required a seismic upgrade and improvements for ADA compliance. During work, the architects uncovered and restored the original oak floor and also identified demarcation of the original stage, removing an addition. The theatre’s doors and windows were restored. A local ironworker created a pair of wrought-iron chandeliers and curtain rods and an art conservator restored the mural by California artist Ross Dickinson. The front plaza was re-bricked and a wide rampway connecting with parking was incorporated, featuring matching brick pavers with wrought-iron handrails.
